    Chlordiazepoxide is used to relieve alcohol withdrawal symptoms and is a treatment for sleeping problems. It helps in the short-term relief of severe anxiety. Trifluoperazine is used to treat mental disorders such as anxiety and schizophrenia (an abnormal interpretation of reality).

    How does the drug work ?

    Chlordiazepoxide is a benzodiazepine drug which has a calming effect. It stops the EEG activity in the brain and causes sedation, improves appetite, and also reduces the pain stimulus. Trifluoperazine works by balancing the chemicals in the brain associated with the abnormal condition.

    What are the common side effects ?

    The common side effects of chlordiazepoxide are drowsiness, sleepiness, light-headedness, dizziness, unsteadiness, loss of balance and walking difficulties, poor muscle co-ordination, speech disorder and confusional states. The common side effects of trifluoperazine are menstrual disturbances, itching, sleep disturbances, blurred vision, dry mouth, muscle weakness, loss of appetite, drowsiness, and dizziness.
