    Cholecalciferol is indicated for the treatment of vitamin D deficiency, bone disorders such as rickets, osteoporosis, osteomalacia, hypoparathyroidism, and other conditions where vitamin D3 is deficient which include celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, and liver problems.

    Mode of drug action :


    Cholecalciferol is a steroid hormone that regulates calcium and phosphorus absorption, bone mineralization, and vitamin A assimilation. In the body, vitamin D3 is converted into its active form cholecalciferol Cholecalciferol acts by increasing the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, bone resorption, and renal tubular reabsorption of calcium. It also promotes intestinal absorption of calcium. Thus, cholecalciferol increases the levels of serum calcium.

    What are the common side effects?

    The cholecalciferol side effects include loss of appetite, increased urination, increased thirst, mental/mood changes, muscle weakness, constipation, and unusual tiredness.

    Special precautions for safe use

    • Arbivit 3 drug should be taken as per the physician’s instructions. Do not take smaller or larger amounts of the drug than prescribed.

    • Arbivit 3 drug should not be taken by the individuals who are allergic to its ingredients from their previous experience.

    • The individual should avoid consumption of alcohol because it can decrease the absorption of the drug and reduce the Arbivit 3 benefits.

    • In the case of dental problems, vitamin D deficiency, swallowing difficulty, stomach ulcers, and kidney or heart disease, take Arbivit 3 with caution.

    • Use of Arbivit 3 needs caution in pregnancy and lactation.

    • Certain drugs such as steroids, diuretics, seizure medications may interact with Arbivit 3 and increase the risk of hypercalcemia. So, continuous monitoring of vitamin D levels in the blood is recommended to reduce the risk.
