    Uses :

    Clonidine is used in the treatment of hypertension and relief from cancer pain (as an added therapy). It is also used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

    Mode of drug action

    Clonidine acts by stimulating the alpha 2-adrenergic receptors present in the brain. Thus, it reduces the levels of certain chemicals, thereby, reducing the heart rate and blood pressure. It relieves pain by blocking the transmission of pain signals to the brain and the spinal cord.

    What are the common side effects?

    The side effects of clonidine include drowsiness, dizziness, sleep problems, tiredness, dry mouth, loss of appetite, constipation, irritation, dry eyes, contact lens discomfort.

    Special precautions for safe use
