    Cefotaxime drug is used to treat typhoid fever and certain bacterial infections, including the life-threatening forms. Sulbactam is used to treat bacterial infections.

    How does the drug work ?

    Cefotaxime kills the bacteria by preventing the formation of a substance called peptidoglycan which provides strength to the cell wall. Sulbactam belongs to the class called beta-lactamase inhibitor. Beta-lactamase is the chemical enzyme produced by bacteria.Sulbactam binds to these enzymes and restricts the degradation of antibiotic.

    What are the common side effects ?

    The side effects which are common with cefotaxime are itching, skin rash, mild diarrhea, pain and lump formation at the injection site. The common reported side effects of sulbactam are abdominal pain, allergic reaction, hives, redness of skin, ankle swelling, limb swelling, and difficulty in swallowing, shortness of breath, facial swelling, stomach cramp, and wheezing.
