    Brinzolamide is used to treat elevated intraocular pressure in the patients with ocular hypertension, open-angle glaucoma, or pseudo-exfoliative glaucoma.

    How does the drug work ?

    Brinzolamide belongs to a class of drugs known as carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. Brinzolamide acts by inhibiting the enzyme carbonic anhydrase thereby reducing the fluid pressure in the eye.

    What are the common side effects ?

    Brinzolamide side effects include nausea, bitter taste, burning sensation in eye, tingling sensation in eye, conjunctivitis, eyelid irritation, eyelid swelling, fatigue, headache, blurred vision, and sore eye.

    Important Information for Safe Use:

    • Avoid driving or operate machinery while taking Azopt ophthalmic solution as it may cause dizziness and visual disturbances.

    • Do not use Azopt eye drops while wearing contact lenses. Maintain at least 10-15 minutes gap to re-insert contact lens after using Azopt medication.

    • Patients using more than one ophthalmic drug should maintain at least ten minutes gap before using other drugs.

    • Use of Azopt eye drops is contraindicated in patients with acute angle-closure glaucoma.

    • Patients planning to become pregnant or pregnant should not take Azopt, as the side effects of Azopt overweigh benefits.


    1. How to use Brinzolamide eye drops? Tilt your head back, pull down your eyelid, hold the dropper facing the eye and squeeze out a drop. Close your eye for about a minute to prevent draining of the liquid. Wait at least for 10 minutes if another drop needs to be instilled in the same eye.

    2. Is it safe to administer Brinzolamide along with timolol? Yes. The combination of timolol and brinzolamide is safe and should be taken only if prescribed by the doctor.

    3. Is it safe to take alcohol while using brinzolamide? Limit the consumption of alcohol while on brinzolamide medication. However, consult your doctor for safe use of the medication.

    4. Is it safe to drive while on brinzolamide medication? Brinzolamide may cause blurred vision so it is not safe to drive until your vision is resumed.

    5. Is brinzolamide safe during pregnancy? No. Brinzolamide is unsafe during pregnancy, consult your doctor before taking the medication.
