    Azithromycin is most commonly used in the treatment of bacterial throat infections, skin infections (treatment of acne). Azithromycin relieves cough and cold symptoms by treating nasal, lung, and chest infections (bronchitis). Tab Azithral is also prescribed for ear, skin, soft tissues, and sexually transmitted genital and urinary infections. Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent which is used in the treatment of lung diseases such as bronchitis, chronic inflammatory pulmonary conditions, tracheobronchitis, emphysema with bronchitis pneumoconiosis, and bronchiectasis.

    How does the drug work ?

    Azithromycin acts by preventing the growth of bacteria. It interferes with the bacterial protein synthesis thereby inhibiting their growth. Ambroxol acts by breaking down the fibers of the mucus, in reducing the viscosity and thinning the sputum. Thus, the sputum can be readily removed through coughing.

    What are the common side effects ?

    The common side effects of azithromycin include nausea and vomiting, stomach pain and upset, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, decreased sense of taste or smell, nervous feeling, tired feeling, sleep disturbances, vaginal itching or discharge, mild rash or itching, ringing in your ears and problems with hearing. The common side effects of ambroxol are produced on the stomach and intestine which are mild. They may include constipation, diarrhea, excess salivation, nausea, and vomiting.

    Important Information for Safe Use:

    • Azyxin Plus drug may make the patients dizzy or drowsy. Avoid activities like driving, operating heavy machinery, or any activity that requires alertness.

    • Limit alcoholic beverages while taking Azyxin Plus medication.

    • Avoid smoking and going to smoke prone places.

    • Do not use Azyxin Plus medicine in case of allergy to any of the ingredients of Ambrodil or to other drugs belongs to same class.

    • Consult the doctor before taking Azyxin Plus drug in pregnancy, or planning to become pregnant, or during breastfeeding.


    1. Is azithromycin safe for children? Yes. Azithromycin is also available in syrup dosage form; it is safe for children if taken in the prescribed dose.

    2. Is azithromycin similar to erythromycin in action? No. Azithromycin is next generation antibiotic of erythromycin class which is more potent. Both are different type of antibiotic belonging to same class

    3. I am on azithromycin medication. I have skipped a dose and had food, what should I do? Take the medicine 2 hours after taking the food. If it’s time for the next dose skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dose. Do not take both skipped as well as regular at a time.
