    Bambuterol is a long acting betaadenoreceptor agonist which is mainly used for the prophylaxis and treatment of asthma. It reduces bronchospasm in the patients with bronchitis and emphysema.

    Mode of drug action


    Bambuterol is a prodrug of terbutaline. It stimulates the beta-adrenergic receptors present on the bronchial smooth muscles which in turn increases the cyclic AMP levels cause relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles. Bambuterol reduces bronchoconstriction and open ups the airways. It provides symptomatic relief in the patients with asthma and bronchitis.

    What are the common side effects?

    The common side effects of bambuterol are palpitations, restlessness, muscle pain, joint pain, muscle stiffness, numbness of hands and legs, muscle cramps, shortness of breath, nausea, headache, and difficulty in sleeping.

    Special precautions for safe use

    • Bambudil may be taken with or without food. Preferably, take the medication with food before going to sleep. Follow the instructions of the physician for safe use.

    • Bambudil may interact with medications such as corticosteroids, diuretics or xanthines. Consult the physician before taking Abel along with other medications.

    • Bambudil is contraindicated in the patients with hyperthyroidism, myocardial insufficiency, arrhythmias, and other cardiac disorders.

    • Bambudil can cause hepatic impairment and cirrhosis so the patients should undergo liver function test.

    • Bambudil is prescribed with caution to pregnant patients. Lactating and pregnant patients should consult the physician before taking the medication

    • Bambudil is contraindicated in the patients who are allergic to bambuterol or similar drugs.

    • Store the medication at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture.

    • Keep the medication out of the reach of children.
