    Ticagrelor reduces the risk of cardiovascular death. Ticagrelor is used to treat heart attack, severe chest pain, and coronary syndrome (a condition where the heart muscles receives inadequate oxygen).

    Mode of drug action


    Ticagrelor is a platelet aggregation inhibitor. It prevents clumping of platelets. This clump can block a blood vessels leading to a heart attack or stroke.

    What are the common side effects?

    The serious side effects include continuous and more bleeding than normal, shortness of breath, blood in urine and increase in uric acid levels in the body. Ticagrelor may cause vertigo.

    Special precautions for safe use

    • Patient planning to undergo coronary artery bypass surgery should not take the drug Brilinta as it can increase the risk of bleeding.

    • Do not stop medication Brilinta abruptly in case of any signs such as bleeding. Stopping the drug may increase the risk of heart stroke and chest pain. Discuss with the doctor and ask for safe withdrawal of drug Brilinta.

    • Do not take drug Brilinta if there is any history of bleeding in the brain or in case of any allergic reactions to ticagrelor or any other ingredients of Brilinta.

    1. Can I use ibuprofen along with ticagrelor? No, you should not use ibuprofen along with ticagrelor. Ibuprofen may increase the risk of bleeding when taken with ticagrelor.

    2. Is ticagrelor better than clopidogrel? Ticagrelor, when compared to clopidogrel, is more effective in reducing the risk of death or myocardial infarction.

    3. Can I take alcohol while using ticagrelor tablet? No, consumption of alcohol while using ticagrelor may increase the risk of bleeding in your intestines and stomach.

    4. Can I use aspirin along with ticagrelor? The dose of aspirin should be maintained at 75-100 mg daily. Higher doses of aspirin may decrease the efficacy of ticagrelor.

    5. Can pregnant women take ticagrelor tablet? No, taking ticagrelor tablet during the last two weeks of pregnancy may cause bleeding problems in the mother or the baby.
