    Calcium Dobesilate is used in the treatment of piles and varicose veins.

    Mode of drug action


    Calcium Dobesilate improves blood flow by decreasing the viscosity or thickness of blood. It decreases the leakage and fragility of the walls of the small vessels.

    What are the common side effects?

    The common side effects are allergic reaction like skin rash and irritation.

    Special precautions for safe use

    • The doctor should be informed if the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding. It should be avoided by women in the 1st trimester of pregnancy.

    • Caldob ointment should not be used on cracked or broken skin unless prescribed by a medical practitioner.

    • The patient should avoid contact of Caldob with eyes. In case of emergency wash the eyes with water immediately and consult the doctor.

    • Dobesio Ointment should not be used if the patient is allergic to calcium dobesilate or any of its ingredients.

    • Dobesio Ointment should not be used if the patient has heart block or hypovolemia (decrease in blood volume).

    What else should I know?

    1. When should I not take Calcium Dobesilate? If the patient is hypertensive , pregnant or is breastfeeding, then Calcium Dobesilate should not be taken.

    2. What adverse reaction can the patient have while using Calcium Dobesilate? The patient may experience nausea, diarrhea, skin rash, fever, headache and vertigo.

    3. Can it be given to children? No, it should not be used for children less than 12 years of age.

    4. Is there any other conditions where Calcium Dobesilate is used. It may be administered rectally for haemorrhoids.
