    Uses :

    Glimepiride Glimepiride drug is used to control blood sugar levels in the people with type 2 diabetes. It is prescribed along with healthy diet and exercises. Controlling high blood sugar levels prevents kidney diseases nerve problems, and blindness. Metformin Metformin hydrochloride is an oral antihyperglycemic drug which helps to reduce blood sugar levels. It is mainly prescribed for the management of type 2 diabetes. It is prescribed either as mono therapy or in combination with other antihyperglycemic drugs. It helps to prevent kidney damage, blindness, and nerve disorders in the diabetic patients. It is also prescribed for the treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome.

    Mode of drug action

    Glimepiride Glimepiride belongs to the second-generation sulfonylurea agents. Glimepiride acts by stimulating releases of insulin from the pancreas. It reduces the potassium conductance and causes depolarization of the membrane which stimulates calcium ion influx through voltage-sensitive calcium channels. The increase in the calcium ions induces the secretion of insulin. Metformin Metformin is an antihyperglycemic agent which is mainly used to treat hyperglycemia. It reduces blood glucose levels by decreasing the glucose absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, improves the insulin sensitivity by increasing the uptake of glucose into muscle, and inhibits biosynthesis of glucose from amino acids.

    What are the common side effects?

    Glimepiride The commonly reported glimepiride side effects are diarrhea, bleeding, bold in stool, dark colored urine, discoloration of the skin, weakness, stomach pain, sore throat, dizziness, and fever. Metformin The common side effects reported for metformin are: Acidity, belching, bloating, heart burn, loss of appetite, metallic taste in mouth, vomiting, weight loss, and stomach pain. In rare cases patients have reported to have abnormal stools, joint pain, flu-like symptoms, runny nose, sneezing, swollen joints and discoloration of finger nails or toe nails

    Special precautions for safe use

    • Individuals suffering from the diabetic coma, and diabetic ketoacidosis should not take Carbophage G forte tablet.

    • Patients with severe sunburns, high acid levels should avoid taking Carbophage G forte medicine.

    • Individuals who have had severe allergic reactions to sulfonamide medicine such as Acetazolamide and Celecoxib may be allergic to Carbophage G forte too.

    • Do not consume alcohol as it may affect blood glucose levels.

    • Patients with type 1 diabetes should not use Carbophage G forte drug.

    • Avoid taking anticoagulants, beta-blockers, and corticosteroids while on Carbophage G forte medication. Concomitant use of these drugs may have drug-drug interactions.

    What else should I know?

    1. Can I take bosentan while using glimepiride medicine? No, patients should not take glimepiride with bosentan.

    2. I experience bruise while taking glimepiride drug. Can I discontinue it? Occurrence of the bruise is the side effects of glimepiride. Consult the doctor if the side effect worsens.

    3. I am scheduled for an abdominal surgery. Can I take glimepiride drug? Consult your doctor to know the risks and benefits of the drug.

    4. I am on glimepiride. Can I take gemfibrozil? No, concomitant use of both the drugs may alter blood sugar levels.

    5. How to use glimepiride? Take glimepiride with your first meal at the same time each day. Metformin

    1. What should I do if I miss a dose? If you forget to take the medication at the usual time, you must take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, you must skip the missed dose. Do not take double dose.

    2. Are there any storage precautions for metformin? Store the medication at room temperature (25°C) and away from direct heat. Keep the drug out of reach of children.

    3. Should I take vitamin B12 supplements with metformin? Long term use of metformin may cause vitamin B12 deficiency in few patients. You should consult your doctor and discuss about it. Do not take vitamin B12 supplements without your physician’s prescription.

    4. Is metformin effective for the type 1 diabetes? No. Metformin is not effective for the treatment of type 1 or juvenile diabetes

    5. Can I take any other medications along with metformin? You must discuss with your doctor before taking any other medications.
