    Uses :

    Cilnidipine tablet is used to treat high blood pressure (essential hypertension). It is also used in the management of hypertension thereby preventing the heart attack.

    Mode of drug action

    Cilnidipine belongs to a class of drugs known as calcium channel blockers. It acts by blocking the activity of calcium channels present in the blood vessels and heart muscles thereby decreasing the load on the heart and it also increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.

    What are the common side effects?

    The common side effects of Cilnidipine include palpitations, frequent urge to urinate, abnormal liver function tests, eye pain, blindness, depression, headache, dizziness, fever, flushing, gingival hyperplasia, decreased blood pressure, impotence, lethargy, rash, muscle pain, and tremor.



    Special precautions for safe use

    • Tab Cetanil can be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

    • Patients with angina are advised not to stop the drug Cetanil suddenly.

    • Discontinue the medicine Cetanil in patients who experience ischemic pain following administration.

    • Cetanil tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.

    • Inform the doctor about the current list of medications, allergies, pre-existing diseases, and current health conditions before taking the medication.

    What else should I know?

    1. Is it safe to drive and operate heavy machinery while on Cilnidipine medication? Drowsiness, dizziness, hypotension or headache are the side-effects of Cilnidipine, if you experience it, it is not safe to drive a vehicle or operate heavy machinery.

    2. Is cilnidipine US FDA approved? No. It is not approved by FDA for the treatment of hypertension.

    3. Can I stop the tablet Cilnidipine immediately or do I have to slowly wean off consumption? Some medicines cannot be stopped immediately because of rebound effects. Cilnidipine should not be stopped immediately especially in the patients with angina.

    4. Is cilnidipine safe during breast feeding? There is no evidence to prove that cilnidipine passes through breast milk. However, consult your doctor before taking the drug.

    5. Is cilnidipine similar to other calcium channel blockers? Cilnidipine is a novel drug which belongs to the class of selective dihydropyridine derivative calcium-channel blockers.
