    Uses :

    Cinnarizine is used in the treatment and prevention of travel sickness. It relieves nausea, vomiting, dizziness (vertigo), ringing sensation in ear associated with Meniere's disease.

    Mode of drug action


    Cinnarizine belongs to the class, antihistamines. It works by blocking histamine receptors in the vomiting center of the brain. It prevents the vomiting center from receiving the nerve impulses from the parts of the inner ear.

    What are the common side effects?

    The common side effects of cinnarizine include bloating, lightheadedness, drowsiness, headache, confusion, constipation, feeling sick, dry mouth, weight gain, and increased sweat.

    Special precautions for safe use

    • Cinzan DT is contraindicated in the patients with porphyrias, fructose or galactose intolerance, and those who are allergic to the drug.

    • Take Cinzan DT as per the instructions by the doctor. Take the drug with or after food to reduce the stomach discomfort.

    • Cinzan DT use may alter certain laboratory results. Therefore, stop using Cinzan DT four days before the allergy test. The medication must be stopped only when instructed by the doctor.

    • Cinzan DT tablets may cause drowsiness therefore, driving and operating heavy machines should be avoided. Consumption of alcohol may potentiate the risk of drowsiness while using Cinzan DT. So, alcohol consumption should be avoided.

    1. Can I take diazepam with cinnarizine? Diazepam is a benzodiazepine drug that increases the risk of drowsiness when co-administered with cinnarizine. So, consult your doctor before taking the drug.

    2. Is cinnarizine an over-the-counter drug? No, cinnarizine is available only when prescribed by the doctor.

    3. Does cinnarizine cause weight gain? Yes. Long-term use of cinnarizine may cause weight gain.

    4. How should I take cinnarizine for travel sickness? Usually, cinnarizine should be taken two hours before you start the journey. You must follow your doctor’s instructions regarding the use of the drug.

    5. Is it safe to use cinnarizine for dizziness during pregnancy? No. Use of cinnarizine is known to cause fetal defects. Therefore, cinnarizine use during pregnancy is not safe.
