    Uses :

    Mebeverine is used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is mainly used to treat the symptoms of IBS which include spasms and pain in the intestine, bloating, winds, diarrhea, and deformed stools.

    Mode of drug action

    Mebeverine uses are mainly due to its antispasmodic activity. It acts on the smooth muscles of the intestine to alter their contractile activity, thus, relieving the spasms.

    What are the common side effects?

    The common mebeverine side effects are dizziness, headache and nausea.

    Special precautions for safe use

    • Children and adolescents aged less than 18 years should not use this medicine. Colospa tablets used for this age group, is more likely to cause side effects.

    • Pregnant women, those planning for pregnancy, and breastfeeding women should take the medicine only under a physician’s guidance. This is to ensure the safety of the medicine for the baby.
