    Uses :

Tamsulosin uses include; providing relief from signs and symptoms such as obstruction of urine flow, the urgency of urination, and frequency of urination which are associated with benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH). This inability to empty the bladder may be the consequence of the enlarged prostate pressing upon the urethra and the urinary bladder neck. Tamsulosin for kidney stones is an example of the off-label use of the drug.

    Mode of drug action

The prostate, urethra, and the bladder neck contain adrenoreceptors, which regulate the muscle tone of these organs. When stimulated the muscles can contract and relax, regulating the urine flow. Tamsulosin is an alpha-1-blocker. It blocks the naturally occurring noradrenaline to act on these receptors, thus relaxing the smooth muscles. Relaxation of these muscles, relieve the symptoms associated with urine flow obstruction and helps the urine flow more easily.
