    Uses :

    Febuxostat tablet is used in the treatment of high blood uric acid levels commonly termed as hyperuricemia and painful joint condition associated with it (gout).

    Mode of drug action


    Febuxostat is classified under a group of medications known as xanthine oxidase inhibitors. Xanthine oxidase is an enzyme which oxidizes both hypoxanthine and xanthine to uric acid. Febuxostat tablets act by inhibiting the enzyme thereby decreasing the blood uric acid levels and preventing gout attacks.

    What are the common side effects?

    Febuxostat side effects include increased levels of liver enzymes, joint pain, acne-like rash, chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, difficult speech, nausea, weakness, and numbness of extremity.

    Special precautions for safe use

    What else should I know?

    1. Is Febuxostat similar to allopurinol in action? Yes. Both the drugs belong to the same class and act by preventing the formation of uric acid.

    2. Is febuxostat a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug? No. Febuxostat belongs to a group of drugs known as xanthine oxidase inhibitors.

    3. Is it safe to take colchicine with febuxostat? Yes. colchicine can be taken safely with febuxostat.

    4. Does consumption of alcohol cause any side effects while taking febuxostat tablets? There is no known interaction between alcohol and febuxostat. However, consult your doctor for safe use of the drug.

    5. I am experiencing, warmth, tenders and extreme pain in the joint, after started taking febuxostat tablets, shall I discontinue the tablets? Initially, you may experience gout symptom flares which wean off on time. Do not stop or start your medication without consulting your doctor.
