    Clofazimine is an anti-leprotic agent used in the treatment of leprosy of different types.

    Mode of drug action

    Clofazimine binds to the bacterial DNA of the Mycobacterium leprae and inhibits the growth of the bacteria. It also has anti-inflammatory action in the management of the associated reactions.

    What are the common side effects?

    The common clofazimine side effects are skin discoloration, dry and scaly skin, stomach pain, diarrhea, loss of hunger, nausea, and vomiting.

    • Take measures to protect skin from reactions occurring due to exposure to sunlight.

    1. How long should I use Hansepran (Clofazimine) for leprosy? The leprosy treatment with Hansepran can last for nearly 2 years or sometimes for lifetime. Therefore, do not stop the medication unless instructed by the physician.

    2. What is the dose of Hansepran drug for leprosy in adults? In adults, the usual dose of Hansepran is 50 to 100 milligrams, per day, taken as a single dose. Talk to a doctor for an appropriate dosage.

    3. What should I do in case I miss a dose of Hansepran? If you remember about the missed dose very late, then leave the dose and continue with the next dose at its scheduled time.

    4. Is skin discoloration a permanent problem with clofazimine? No. The skin discoloration stops once the clofazimine medication is stopped. For the complete return to its original color, it may take several months to years.
