    Uses :

    Tablet Hcqs contains hydroxycholoroquine which is mainly used to suppress and treat acute attacks (severe and sudden onset) of malaria. Hydroxychloroquine tablets are also used for the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as lupus arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis.

    Mode of drug action

    Hcqs tablet belongs to a group of drugs known as anti-malarial agents. Hydroxychloroquine acts via multiple mechanisms that include interfering with enzyme activities, inhibition of messenger chemicals, and inhibition of cellular activity that cause inflammation.

    What are the common side effects?

    Hcqs tablets side effects include loss of appetite, mood changes, increased sensitivity to light, blurred distance vision, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, bruise, muscle weakness, bleeding, dizziness, hearing disorder, ringing in the ear, and rash.

    Special precautions for safe use

    • Patients with severe stomach and intestinal problems, neurological problems, aged above 65 years, or alcohol addict should consult the doctor before taking Hcqs tablets.

    • Hydroxychloroquine can lower the blood glucose level severely which may result in loss of consciousness and may be life-threatening to all patients. Consult your doctor if the patient is diabetic or is on anti-diabetic medication.

    • Avoid hydroxychloroquine in the patients with the history of maculopathy or retinopathy.

    • Stop hydroxychloroquine medication, if disturbances in vision, abnormal color vision, black spots or haziness are experienced. Early detection may make the damage reversible upon discontinuation of the medication.

    • Patients who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding should consult the doctor before taking the Hcqs medication.

    • Take each dose of hydroxychloroquine with food or a glass of milk.

    • In children, long-term use of hydroxychloroquine is not recommended.

    What else should I know?

    1. Is hydroxychloroquine safe in children? Yes. Hydroxychloroquine is safe in children if used at prescribed doses. However, long-term use of hydroxychloroquine is not recommended.

    2. Is hydroxychloroquine an antibiotic? No. Hydroxychloroquine is an anti-malarial which kills malaria-causing protozoa such as Plasmodium vivax, P. malariae, P. ovale, and susceptible strains of P. falciparum.

    3. Is Hcqs the same as Plaquenil? Yes. Plaquenil and Hcqs are the trade names for active drug hydroxychloroquine.

    4. I am taking vitamin supplements, is it safe to hydroxychloroquine with multivitamins? Yes. Hydroxychloroquine has no known side effect with vitamins. However, avoid vitamin supplements that contain magnesium, aluminum, or calcium, as these minerals are known to reduce the blood levels of hydroxychloroquine.

    5. Is it safe to take antihistamines with hydroxychloroquine? Most of the antihistamines do not have any known interaction when taken with hydroxychloroquine. Antihistaminic drug cimetidine may increase blood levels of hydroxychloroquine. Consult your doctor before taking the medication.
