    Uses :

    Hydrocortisone is a glucocorticoid used for the treatment of inflammation, allergy, collagen diseases, asthma, adrenocortical deficiency, shock, and some neoplastic conditions. It is used to treat dermatomyositis, dermatitis, psoriatic arthritis and many other skin diseases.

    Mode of drug action

    Hydrocortisone inhibits the synthesis of arachidonic acid and reduces the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, the chemical mediators which causes inflammation. It also suppresses the immune responses by decreasing the function of lymphatic system and reduces the immunoglobulin levels in the body.

    What are the common side effects?

    The common side-effects of hydrocortisone are skin rash, encrusted and scaly skin, stinging, dryness of skin, fever or chills, itching in the genital or other skin areas, rash, and skin irritation.

    Special precautions for safe use

    • Hisone causes some of the side effects such as dryness of skin, increases or decreases skin pigmentation, dry eyes, chest pain or abdominal pain, and increases the fat levels in the body.

    • Patients who are planning to conceive should avoid using Hisone at least one month before conceiving.

    • Hisone should not be applied on wounds or burns. It should not be applied in the eyes, nose, mouth, rectum and vagina.

    • Avoid exposure to sunlight after applying Hisone.

    • Keep the medication out of the reach of the children.
