    Uses :

    Itraconazole is used to treat fungal infections of the lungs, throat, mouth, and other parts of the body.

    Mode of drug action

    Itraconazole belongs to the imidazole group of antifungal agent. Itraconazole inhibits the conversion of lanosterol into ergosterol. Ergosterol is an essential enzyme useful for the synthesis of the fungal cell wall. Inhibition of ergosterol facilitates cellular permeability resulting in the leakage of cellular contents of the fungal cell, causing the death of the cell. It also inhibits transformation of yeast to mycelial forms and inhibits phospholipids or triglyceride biosynthesis.

    What are the common side effects?

    The common side effects of itraconazole are depression, joint pains, drowsiness, dizziness, heartburn, running nose, headache, hair loss, and constipation.

    Special precautions for safe use

    • Itrasys tablet is not suggested in the patients who has kidney problems.

    • Individuals with weakened immune system, abnormal liver functions, pulmonary conditions, and breathing problems should not use the Itrasys medicine.

    • Itrasys and its ingredients may interact with multivitamins, herbal medications, and dietary supplements. Consult the doctor before using the drug along with these medicaments.

    • To clear the infections completely, use of Itrasys for its full course treatment is recommended.

    • Alcohol may worsen the Itrasys side effects such as dizziness and drowsiness. So, avoid consumption of alcohol while taking the drug.

    • Do not shift to different Itrasys dosage forms without taking the doctor’s advice.

    • Patients suffering from HIV/ AIDS should inform the doctor before taking Itrasys tablet.

    • Patients who experience loss of hearing, hearing disturbances, ringing in the ears, blurred vision or sensitivity to light should inform the doctor before taking Itrasys medicine.

    What else should I know?

    1. Should I take itraconazole before food or after food? Itraconazole tablet should be taken one hour before meals for better efficacy.

    2. Can itraconazole cause bleeding of gums? Yes, itraconazole may cause bleeding of gums.

    3. Does itraconazole damage liver? Yes, prolonged use of itraconazole capsules damages the liver.

    4. Can I take contraceptives while using itraconazole tablet? No, concomitant use of Itrasys with birth control pills may increase the risk of Canditral side effects

    5. Can itraconazole treat viral infections? No, itraconazole is effective only against fungal infections.
