    Uses :

    Itraconazole is used to treat fungal infections of the lungs, throat, mouth, and other parts of the body.

    Mode of drug action

    Itraconazole inhibits the conversion of lanosterol into ergosterol, an essential enzyme useful for the synthesis of the fungal cell wall. This increases cellular permeability resulting in the leakage of cellular contents, causing the death of the fungal cell. It also inhibits transformation of yeast to mycelial forms and inhibits phospholipids or triglyceride biosynthesis.

    What are the common side effects?

    The common side effects of Onitraz are depression, joint pain, drowsiness, dizziness, heartburn, running nose, headache, hair loss, and constipation.



    Special precautions for safe use

    • People using antacids are recommended to take at least 1-2 hours before Livafin capsules.

    • People allergic to Livafin capsules or any other drug with similar preparations should avoid using Livafin capsules.

    • Avoid driving and using heavy machinery after taking Livafin capsules as it may cause weakness, dizziness and blurry vision.

    • Discontinue the use of Livafin capsules and consult the doctor if there is any blurry vision, ringing sound in the ears, increased urination and severe diarrhoea.

    • Pregnant, lactating and expecting mothers should seek doctor’s advice before taking Livafin capsules.

    • Diabetic patients should take Livafin capsule with high caution, as it lowers the blood sugar levels. Monitor the blood levels regularly.

    What else should I know?

    1. Should I take itraconazole before food or after food? Itraconazole tablet should be taken one hour before meals for better efficacy.

    2. Can itraconazole cause bleeding of gums? Yes, itraconazole may cause bleeding of gums.

    3. Does itraconazole damage liver? Yes, prolonged use of itraconazole capsules damages the liver.

    4. Can I take contraceptives while using itraconazole tablet? No, concomitant use of itraconazole with birth control pills may increase the risk of itraconazole side effects.

    5. Can itraconazole treat viral infections? No, itraconazole is effective only against fungal infections.
