    Bimatoprost is used to treat glaucoma (gradual loss of vision due to damage to the eye’s optic nerve), ocular hypertension (increased pressure in the eye). Additionally, it helps to grow eyelashes longer and thicker.

    Mode of drug action

    Bimatoprost is a synthetic analog of prostaglandin. It acts by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor, thus reducing the pressure in the eye. It also reduces the rate of aqueous formation in the eye by draining aqueous humor from the eyeball.

    What are the common side effects?

    The common bimatoprost drug side effects are redness of eyes, itching of eyes, headache, eye pain, sensitivity to light, dry eyes, and less production of tears.

    Special precautions for safe use

    • Do not take overdose of Lumigan medication, as excess bimatoprost worsens the signs and symptoms of glaucoma.

    • Do not wear contact lens while using Lumigan drug, as it absorbs the bimatoprost medicine.

    • Pregnant and breastfeeding women should use the drug with caution.
