    Mifepristone is used in the medical termination of unwanted pregnancy. Misoprostol is used in combination with another drug such as mifepristone to avoid pregnancy. It is also used to prevent stomach ulcers especially while taking NSAID’s. it is also used to reduce the serious ulcer complications such as bleeding. Misoprostol also protects stomach lining by lowering the amount of acid production.

    How does the drug work?

    Mifepristone is an anti progesterone hormone. It is used for medical abortion by blocking the certain hormones. Progesterone is necessary to maintain pregnancy. Mifepristone blocks the action of progesterone and cause medical termination of pregnancy. Misoprostol inhibits gastric acid secretion by acting directly on prostaglandin receptor of parietal cells. It indirectly inhibits adenylate cyclase mediated by G proteins. This significant action of misoprostol is related to several mechanisms of the body such as increased secretion of bicarbonate, replacement of prostaglandins etc. it is increases the frequency and amplitude of uterine contractions.

    The common side effects of mifepristone are nausea, vomiting, joint pain, vaginal infection, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, insomnia, loss of appetite, limb swelling, decreased potassium levels in the blood, and weakness.     Important Information for use

    • People with bone marrow depression should not use Zepcar CR medicine.

    • Avoid the Zepcar CR drug if an allergic reaction was seen with an earlier use of carbamazepine.

    • Do not take any other antidepressant drugs along with Carbafen tablet. If a MAO-inhibitor drug was used in the past 14 days, then do not take Zepcar CR.

    • Call the doctor immediately in the case of skin rash, unusual weakness, bleeding and fever. This is because of the chances of Carbafen side effects such as life-threatening skin rash.

    • Continue the Zepcar CR medication for the full length prescribed by the doctor.

    • Pregnant women should not start or stop using Zepcar CR unless instructed by the doctor.

    • Don’t get exposed to sunlight due to the risk of sunburn with Zepcar CR.

    • Do not take grapefruit juice while using Zepcar CR.
