    Uses :

Insulin is a hormone used in the management of diabetes (both type I and type II). Insulin aspart is fast-acting insulin while insulin aspart protamine is an intermediate-acting type of insulin.

    Mode of drug action

Similar to the other insulin products (such as Novorapid insulin, lispro insulin, etc.) both the types of insulin bind to the insulin receptors of the cells, increasing their uptake of glucose from the blood. It also inhibits the conversion of glycogen (a storage form of glucose) to glucose in the liver, thus, this medicine lowers the blood glucose levels.

What are the common side effects?

The common side effects of both the types of insulin include injection site reaction, abnormally low levels of glucose, and abnormal distribution of fats in the body.

Pregnancy: Safe under medical guidance Breast feeding: Safe under medical guidance Alcohol: Unsafe Kidney dysfunction: Caution required Liver dysfunction: Caution required

    Special precautions for safe use

    • Do not take Novomix if a past allergic reaction has been experienced to any of the insulin products.

    • Avoid the injection during the episodes of hypoglycemia (i.e. low levels of blood glucose).

    • It is not a good idea to share the injection pens with others even if the needle is changed. It can lead to the transmission of infections.

    • People with emotional disturbances and stress may require a modification of the dose of the medicine.

    • Do not perform unplanned strenuous exercises while using this medicine due to the increased risk of insulin aspart side effects such as hypoglycemia.

    • People with a concomitant illness or infection, kidney or liver impairment, and heart diseases should use this medicine carefully, under a physician’s supervision.

    • This drug is not for use in children and adolescents younger than 18 years of age.

    • If any other anti-diabetic medications are taken together with this medicine, it should be informed to a doctor due to the risk of serious heart problems.

    • Pregnant and breastfeeding women may require a different dose of the medicine. It is very important to manage the blood sugar levels during pregnancy. Therefore, regularly visit a doctor for appropriate dosing.

    • Always keep fast-acting energy sources such as candies while using this medicine. This helps to quickly overcome the problem of hypoglycemia with insulin preparations.

    • Regularly monitor blood glucose levels and report if the levels are too high or low.

    • Keep changing the injection site as per the doctor’s suggestion.

    • It is very important to take the exact dosage of aspart insulin as prescribed by a physician. Otherwise, it can lead to unwanted effects.

    • Read the instructions given on the label of Novomix injections before use.
