    Uses :

    Sulfasalazine is used to treat inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. It is also used to treat the conditions such as fever, stomach pain, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding. Additionally, sulfasalazine is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis such as joint pains, swelling, and stiffness of the muscles.

    Mode of drug action


    Sulfasalazine is an anti-inflammatory drug. The salicylate moiety of sulfasalazine remains in the gut and inhibits the formation of prostaglandins that reduces the inflammation of the bowel. The other sulfasalazine moiety, Sulfapyridine is absorbed in the body and reduces pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis.

    What are the common side effects?

    The common side effects of sulfasalazine are muscle pain, bruise, diarrhea, loss of appetite, headache, rashes, sore throat, fever, vomiting, itching, hives, bleeding, stomach upset, dizziness, and unusual tiredness.

    Special precautions for safe use

    • Saaz ingredients may cause severe skin reactions which may even cause death. Discuss with your doctor about the side effects of Saaz before taking the medicine.

    • Avoid Saaz medicine while taking anticoagulants, beta-blockers, or methenamine, as these increases the risks of Saaz side effects.
