    Uses :

    Clozapine is used to treat symptoms of schizophrenia, Parkinson’s disease, and to treat side effects of psychotic medications.

    Mode of drug action

    The antipsychotic action of clozapine occurs by the antagonist effects of D2 receptors in the mesolimbic pathway and 5-HT2A receptors in the frontal cortex. Clozapine decreases the excess levels of dopamine and serotonin in the CNS which are responsible for the psychiatric manifestations.

    What are the common side effects?

    The common side effects of clozapine are dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, constipation, blurred vision, confusion, irregular heartbeat, shaking of legs and arms, unusual tiredness or weakness.

    Special precautions for safe use

    • Patients should not use the Sizopin tablet if they develop allergic reactions while using the drug.

    • The patients should discontinue the use of Sizopin medicine if they experience symptoms such as chest pain and fluttering of the chest.

    • Patients with a history of seizures, head injury, heart attack or stroke should use the drug after consulting the doctor.

    • Do not stop Sizopin medication abruptly; tapering of the dosage is needed. Do not self-medicate.

    • Avoid alcohol, as it increases the risks of side effects such as dizziness or drowsiness.
