    Uses :

    Sodium valproate is used in the treatment of seizures, bipolar disorders (mood disorder) and to prevent migraine headache.

    Mode of drug action

    Sodium valproate (a salt of valproic acid) regulates the levels of substances called neurotransmitters in the brain, thus, it calms down the brain, treating the brain disorders.

    What are the common side effects?

    The common sodium valproate side effects include constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, drowsiness, headache, hair loss, nausea, stomach cramps or pain, difficulty sleeping, change in appetite, vomiting, weakness and weight changes.

    Special precautions for safe use

    • Do not take Valparin tablets if an allergic reaction has been experienced to sodium valproate when used earlier.

    • Valparin should not be used by the patients with liver problems (including a family history), illnesses such as porphyria, and Alpers-Huttenlocher syndrome (a genetic disorder).

    • Before taking any other drugs along with the tab Valparin Chrono, inform a doctor to avoid unwanted effects due to the interactions.

    • Valparin drug should be taken with caution by patients with diabetes, kidney problems, certain brain conditions, and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) which effects skin, joints and other organs.

    • Valparin medicine is very harmful to the unborn baby. Therefore, pregnant women should take Valparin only with a doctor’s recommendation, if there is no other alternative. Breastfeeding women should take a doctor’s advice to ensure safety of the newborn.

    • It is recommended not to drink alcohol while using Valparin. This can increase the Valparin side effects.
